Senior Site Engineer - Co Cork
Mannings Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join our innovative and quality-focused team in Co Cork.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing site engineering activities, with a primary focus including setting out and ensuring precise execution of all engineering elements of the construction project.
The role will require the candidate to establish and uphold excellent standards on-site, in line with the principles of the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme. They will be responsible for positively managing community relations, ensuring efficient site operations, and maintaining our company’s reputation for quality and professionalism in engineering practices.
The ideal candidate will work diligently with the Site Management team to minimize waste and non-recoverable costs while monitoring progress and adhering to the agreed budget. They must possess the ability to work within project programmes, effectively control operations, and ensure tasks are completed within a timely project manner with a specific emphasis on accurate setting out.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform setting out activities accurately and efficiently to facilitate construction works.
Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project programmes to guide setting out activities effectively.
Manage site engineering tasks, including but not limited to leveling, surveying, and ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Liaise with project stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers to coordinate setting out activities and resolve any technical issues that may arise.
Provide technical guidance and support to site staff and subcontractors regarding setting out procedures and requirements.
Ensure all setting out works are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company standards.
Maintain accurate records of setting out activities, including as-built drawings, survey reports, and quality control documentation.
Assist in the development and updating of construction programmes, with a focus on setting out requirements and milestones.
Monitor progress and identify any deviations from the programme, taking proactive measures to address issues and minimize delays.
Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to optimize construction processes and improve efficiency.
Mentor and support junior site engineering staff, fostering their professional development and technical competence.
Essential Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a site engineering role, with a strong background in setting out and construction site management.
Proficiency in using surveying equipment and software, including total stations, GPS, and CAD software.
Excellent understanding of engineering principles, construction techniques, and building regulations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and resolve issues effectively.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise confidently with project stakeholders and team members.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment, prioritizing tasks and managing workload efficiently.
They must have the ability to read and accurately interpret programmes, drawings and technical specifications and be capable of prioritising and working to deadlines.
He/She must have excellent time management, organisational and leadership skills and be comfortable with providing advice, support and guidance to members of the project team.
Strong business management skills, excellent verbal communication skills, logical thinking and a good initiative are key skills required for this role.
A full clean driving licence is essential for this role.
Desirable:
Professional accreditation or membership with a relevant engineering institution (e.g., Engineers Ireland).
Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects in a senior engineering capacity.
Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other digital construction technologies.
