Estimator (UK & NI)

Mannings Construction Group is a leading construction firm known for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Estimator to join our team and play a key role in our project estimation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Analysis:
- Review project plans, specifications, and relevant documents to understand project requirements and scope.
- Cost Estimation:
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost calculations for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to estimate project costs accurately.
- Bid Preparation:
- Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids by analyzing cost estimates, factoring in overheads, profit margins, and other relevant considerations.
- Supplier/Subcontractor Management:
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers and subcontractors.
- Solicit quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and maintain relationships to ensure competitive pricing and availability of resources.
- Cost Database Management:
- Maintain and update a cost database of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor rates for accurate and efficient estimating.
- Value Engineering:
- Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Suggest alternative materials or methods and provide value engineering recommendations.
- Bid Review and Analysis:
- Review bid results, perform comparative analysis, and identify areas for improvement and cost optimization in future estimates.
- Cost Tracking:
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process.
- Track variances and provide timely reports to project stakeholders.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to gather relevant information and ensure accurate estimating.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Stay updated on construction industry trends, market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to inform estimating practices and maintain competitiveness.
Person Specification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as RICS, CIOB, or AACE International are advantageous.
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or a similar role within the construction industry, preferably in the UK.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools and Microsoft Excel for accurate and efficient estimating.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Strong analytical and mathematical abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimating projects simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
