Estimator (UK & NI)

Mannings Construction Group is a leading construction firm known for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Estimator to join our team and play a key role in our project estimation process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Analysis:
    • Review project plans, specifications, and relevant documents to understand project requirements and scope.
  2. Cost Estimation:
    • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost calculations for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to estimate project costs accurately.
  3. Bid Preparation:
    • Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids by analyzing cost estimates, factoring in overheads, profit margins, and other relevant considerations.
  4. Supplier/Subcontractor Management:
    • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Solicit quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and maintain relationships to ensure competitive pricing and availability of resources.
  5. Cost Database Management:
    • Maintain and update a cost database of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor rates for accurate and efficient estimating.
  6. Value Engineering:
    • Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Suggest alternative materials or methods and provide value engineering recommendations.
  7. Bid Review and Analysis:
    • Review bid results, perform comparative analysis, and identify areas for improvement and cost optimization in future estimates.
  8. Cost Tracking:
    • Monitor project costs throughout the construction process.
    • Track variances and provide timely reports to project stakeholders.
  9. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to gather relevant information and ensure accurate estimating.
  10. Industry Knowledge:
    • Stay updated on construction industry trends, market conditions, material costs, and labor rates to inform estimating practices and maintain competitiveness.

Person Specification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as RICS, CIOB, or AACE International are advantageous.
  • Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or a similar role within the construction industry, preferably in the UK.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools and Microsoft Excel for accurate and efficient estimating.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimating projects simultaneously.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
