Planner / Programmer

Overview:

Mannings Construction is currently seeking an experienced Construction Planner/Programmer to join our team in Co Cork.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining project schedules, utilizing their expertise to ensure effective planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities.

With a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and proficiency in Microsoft Project and Asta Powerproject, the ideal candidate will contribute to the successful delivery of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

– Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard planning software, such as Microsoft Project and Asta Powerproject.
– Collaborate with the bid management team, project managers, engineers, quantity surveyors, and other stakeholders to establish project objectives, milestones, and deliverables.
– Conduct detailed analysis of project scope, resources, and constraints to develop realistic and achievable schedules that meet client requirements and contractual obligations.
– Monitor progress against project schedules, identifying critical path activities, potential delays, and areas of risk, and proactively propose mitigation strategies.
– Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to integrate their work activities into the overall project schedule, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.
– Prepare and distribute regular progress reports, including Gantt charts, S-curves, and other graphical representations, to communicate project status and performance to key stakeholders.
– Conduct schedule impact assessments for proposed changes, variations, and delays, and provide recommendations for mitigating their effects on project timelines and costs.
– Assist in the development of resource-loaded schedules, resource histograms, and resource levelling plans to optimize resource utilization and productivity.
– Participate in project meetings, workshops, and reviews to provide scheduling expertise, support decision-making, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
– Provide training, guidance, and support to project teams on scheduling best practices, software tools, and techniques for effective schedule management.
– Stay informed of industry trends, advancements in planning methodologies, and emerging technologies, and incorporate them into project scheduling processes and procedures.

Essential Requirements:

– Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
– Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction planning and scheduling, preferably within the civil engineering or building construction sectors.
– Proficiency in industry-standard planning software, including Microsoft Project and Asta Powerproject, with a demonstrated ability to create and maintain complex schedules.
– Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing of work activities, and critical path analysis.
– Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and make informed recommendations.
– Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
– Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
– Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Desirable:

– Professional accreditation or certification in project management or scheduling (e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP), Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP)).
– Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) and its integration with project scheduling processes.
